ASEM
eHealth Working Group Background
It was agreed that an ASEM Working Group on eHealth be established for
drawing up the best practice guidelines under iii) above. This working group
would comprise senior level experts from Europe and Asia, with input both from
the World Health Organisation and the European Commission. The TFAP meeting
co-chairmen asked Professor Richardson to coordinate the establishment of the
Working Group and invited notices of interest in taking part in the Working
Group to be sent to him (e-mail: rickyr@healthsysconsult.co.uk). Professor
Richardson is Director of the European eHealth Forum, Director of the UK eHealth
Association (UKeHA), Vice President of the International Society for
Telemedicine and eHealth and Visiting Professor in eHealth at Imperial College,
London. He is a highly respected figure in the international eHealth community
and has been actively involved in ASEM¡¯s eCommerce multilateral work on eHealth
since 2003.
The UK¡¯s Department of Trade & Industry agreed in December 2005 to help
establish the Working Group with the aim of submitting a text of guidelines for
approval by the ASEM partner countries at the next TFAP meeting on eCommerce
which will be held in Beijing in late 2006.
Baltic Health Exchange (BHE) Project
The ASEM eHealth Working Group plan to hold a workshop in early December 2007
hosted by one of the prospective Asian participating countries (t.b.c.: China,
Korea or Vietnam) in the Baltic Health Exchange (BHE) project agreed in Jiaxing.
